I come from a family where I have been possessively ruled over by brothers. Well, there is the one sister, but she's way too old for me to even remember the last time I mentioned her in any conversation.
The problem is, I've always wanted to do most things alone, so when Pater decided it's time for me to fly the nest, I flew and how. The thing is, as a young girl growing up surrounded by brothers and their girlfriends and then wives, I've always had plenty of women to draw my inspiration from.
I grew up and my lust for travelling alone increased. But there was a point in time, and I remember this moment so vividly because I vowed I would want to be independent even when I would get a permanent room mate for life.
I think one's definition of Being independent changes. If there ever was a history book to be written, I would still call it the Pre & Post Independence days (or years). Because no matter what people say, I think I've gotten even more independent post getting married than what I was when I was single and doing my own stuff.
I can't complain though, this is what a lot of women want. To still be independent despite being married. But somewhere, the girl who got on the plane wishing for a travel mate is disappointed.
